How to Be a Christian Activist for Leftist Issues

"Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. 22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. 23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."(Matthew 19:21-24) God want us to love one another and to give of ourselves with a non judgmental intent. By giving freely of oneself, we ascend the petty argument of who is right or wrong, especially when we begin to change the lives of those around us by our love and desire to make the world a better place regardless of any political view.

Stay devoted to Christ. This will give you the strength to carry on with whatever movement you're committed to. Pray, meditate, and read the Bible when you can. Finding a church sympathetic or approving of your beliefs might also help.

"Blessed are the peacemakers; for they shall be called the children of God."(Matthew 19:21-24) Be careful, or be selective about what you campaign for. In other words, don't push Issue X if your intended audience isn't very receptive to it. Instead, try advocating for Issue Y, or any other issue that might gain momentum.
    • This doesn't mean you should give up on something simply because it isn't popular. Since you're starting out, go with the easy stuff first- then gradually increase your activities as you gain more experience.

Find others that share your ideas. One person alone can't do much to change things, but many people can. Work with them on what you can do together, and stick to it.
    • Always make sure of the person's commitment to the given issue, and to both of your schedules. Then you can get an idea of how and when they can help you and others.

Organise. Make sure you have enough materials (and cash) to do what you need to, and be as cost-effective as possible.

Act. It's very important that you follow through with any planned activities and actions that you start with. Otherwise, others might see the movement as 'casual,' meaning that it shouldn't be taken seriously.

  • Be the change you want to see and get involved locally. Be open with your intentions, give to those in need freely without expecting something in return, and most importantly have faith in what you are doing. There is a reality that is so perfect and beautiful and it is affected by everything that we do and don't do. Choose to make your world around you better by being a non judgmental Christian.
  • There are a few things you can do on your own. You can write a letter to the editor of a newspaper, for example.
  • Donating to a cause also helps, but being actively involved in any given movement is more valuable than any possible cash donation.

  • Do not allow hate to enter your heart at any cost. Realise that there will be those that will judge and slander your name but your mission is pure and true. Disregard any hate speech and attempt to undermine your belief in the good works that you are doing.
  • Some people might question the sincerity of your Christianity because of your political beliefs. Don't let these people get to you- their ideas might be all they know. Instead, pray for them.
