When you arrive, look around the place where the dance is held. Look for the largest section of kids. (Where most of the kids are.) Most kids are dancing near the DJ system, or might be wallflowers and standing at the walls.

Dance alone, but in the group. (Dance how you would in your bedroom listening to the radio. There's no right or wrong way to dance because every one's different.) Dancing in a very choreographed sense will get very boring. Also do not dance so crazily so you don't take up a lot of room.

Move through the crowd after about one minute of dancing alone. Jump in front of random boys or girls who are alone and dance for about ten seconds. Jump from person to person.

Ask a guy or girl to dance. Lead them out of the crowd and into a smaller bunch. Dance with him or her there. After you're finished, chances are, that person will stay in the small crowd. Repeat steps 3 and 4.
