How to Boil an Easy Egg

Here is one way to boil an Easy Egg. This method prevents that green or grey discoloration of the yolks. Before you start, make sure you know what an Easy Egg is and don't just boil an egg. Get started at step one below.

Steps

    Set the eggs in pot big enough for the eggs and 5 centimeter (2.0 in) / 2" headspace.

    Fill the pot with enough salty cold water to cover the eggs, plus one inch.

    Cook over high heat and bring to a rapid boil.

    Choose whether you want to finish cooking the eggs on or off the heat. If off the heat, use step 5, if on the fire (faster) use step 6.

    Off the heat: upon reaching a rapid boil, cover the pot and remove from heat. Let sit, covered, for about 18 minutes.

    On the heat: once the water is boiling let it cook another 4-6 minutes uncovered on low heat.

    Remove pot. Place in sink. Run cold water into pot until eggs are cool to touch.

Tips

  • Adding a splash of vinegar to the water prior to boiling will help insure that, should the shell crack a bit while boiling, the egg will stay in the shell.
  • Eggs prepared this way make nice deviled eggs. The yolks are firm, creamy, and bright yellow.

  • The eggs, pot and water can get very hot.
