How to Build a Playhouse Out of a Box

An empty box is an amazing blank slate for the creative mind to work with. Given just a little ingenuity, you can turn one (or many) into a playhouse of wonders.

Steps

    Choose a box. The bigger the box, the bigger you can think! Consider combining several boxes together to make the playhouse even bigger.

    Decide what you want it for. What are you going to make? You are only limited by your imagination. Maybe you want a castle with a drawbridge, or maybe you're pretending to be in an underground bunker during a war, the last hope for the free world.

    Start laying out your box or boxes. If you are only using one, this is easy- turn it upside down. with many boxes though, you might have tunnels and passageways to other boxes.

    Once you have figured out where everything should go and made sure you have enough boxes, start cutting and taping the boxes together. Cut out the door and windows, leaving one edge attached so it can swing back and forth.

    Now that your playhouse is put together and cut out, start decorating it! You can use markers, paints, stickers, or whatever else catches your imagination. More boxes might make turrets atop your castle, or a weather vane. Some string can make the doors fun when they open and shut at the pull of a string, or even a working drawbridge.

Warnings

  • Do not cut the boxes yourself unless you are a responsible adult.
  • Keep open flames out of box playhouse.
  • Do not build box playhouses near heat sources.
