How to Build a Projector Out of Cardboard

This basic projector is made from cardboard and a magnifying glass. You simply add a video from your phone to it and the movie or video will shown large against a wall.

  1. 1
Find a medium or small cardboard box.
  2. 2
Use a box cutter to cut a hole slightly smaller than the circular part of the magnifying glass. Make sure the hole is in the end of the box. This is what's going to project your image or video.
  3. 3
Use duct tape to tape the edge of the magnifying glass to the box where the hole is. Stand it up vertically. It can be taped on either side or both sides. Just don't cover the glass with tape or it won't work.
    • If you get tape on the glass, just peel it off. If a sticky residue remains, it can be wiped off with rubbing alcohol or fingernail polish remover. Soap won't work!
  4. 4
Stand your phone up at the opposite end of the box. Face the "projector" onto a smooth surface with no markings or designs, such as white sheet or wall.
  5. 5
    Have fun watching your movie!

  • Removing the handle of your magnifying glass saves time and effort. Not to mention, it'll probably fit much better in your box.

If you have trouble measuring, run a sharpie around the edge of your magnifying glass and quickly press it onto your box. Make sure not to sharpie your magnifier or yourself. Washable markers and washable paint also work if you're afraid of marking things permanently, or if you prefer the less messy route.

  • Use safety gloves when handling the box cutters. If you do not know how to use them, ask for help from someone responsible.
