How to Change the Music in Computer Games

This article shows you how to change the music in computer games for Windows XP.

Steps

    Open Control Panel and choose “Folder Options”.
    • Click on the “View” tab and check “Show hidden files and folders”.

    • Click OK. Close Control Panel.

    Go to the place where you saved the program at installation. (default is C:\Program Files). Open up the folder of your game. Look for a .wav file (example: Start.wav). Open it with Sound Recorder.

    Play it first to make sure that it is the right one. Then, click File > Save As... and save as, for example, start2.wav. Then delete the whole sound and record something.

    Rename the old sound to "startOld.wav" then rename the new one to "start.wav" or whatever the original was called. Do not move the files.

    Run the game. You should hear your new sound whenever you were hearing the old one.

Tips

  • Alternatively, you can find an already existing file to replace the old one. Simply move it to the directory and rename.

Warnings

  • Make sure that you save the file as before editing. Same reason as before.
  • Do not rename the new recording first. This will cause you to lose the original, which cannot be replaced if you are dissatisfied.
  • This doesn't work with many games, such as Grand Theft Auto San Andreas and newer, because they are on some files, which need you to use game editor.
