How to Connect PS3 Controller to Mac

Playing games on a Mac is a great experience. However, a proper controller can improve this experience leaps and bounds. Unlike the PC, there aren't many controllers available for the Mac. Luckily, you can use the Playstation 3 Dualshock 3 Wireless Controller to play games. Scroll down to Step 1 to learn how to play games on your Mac using the PS3 controller.

Steps

    Make sure you have all the things needed. You will need a Dualshock 3 Wireless Controller, a USB Mini-B cable, a game that supports Bluetooth controllers, and the OS X Mavericks.

    Go to Mac's Bluetooth settings. Click the Apple icon at the top left and then select "System Preferences." Click "Bluetooth."

    Turn on Bluetooth.

    Connect the PS3 controller to the Mac. Use the USB Mini-B cable to connect the controller to the Mac. The controller will appear on the list of Bluetooth devices but it will state that the controller is “not connected.”

    Press the PS button on the controller.

    Remove the USB cable connected on the controller.

    Pair the controller with the Mac. You will be asked for a password. Enter 0000 and select "Pair."

Tips

  • You only have to do this setup once. As long as the controller is detected by the Mac, you can simply pick-up and play the controller.
  • Also, make sure the game you are playing supports Bluetooth controllers. To know if the game supports this, check on the back of your game packaging or website.
