How to Create Non Toxic Wipes

Concerned that harsh chemicals or toxins are penetrating not only your skin but your baby’s skin too? You don’t have to settle for commercial baby or make-up wipes to do the job when you have simple, clean household products to do the job.

Method 1
Baby Wipes

    Divide half a paper towel roll into individual sheets. Form a neat stack.

    Submerge the paper towel sheets in 4 cups of warm water. Instead of using tap water, use distilled to inhibit the growth of mold.

    Add 1 to 2 tbsp. of coconut oil and approximately 2 squirts of baby oil to the mixture.

    Allow the paper towels to absorb the water and oil. This could take up to half an hour for full absorption.

    Transfer to container. You could clean out a used baby wipe container and simply transfer your homemade wipes into the used container.

Method 2
Make Up Remover Wipes

    Soak the sheets from half a paper towel roll in 4 cups of warm distilled water (like with the baby wipes, distilled works best). You may also want to add a few drops of tea tree oil to further prevent mold growth.

    Add 2 squirts of baby wash. Not baby oil--you want wipes that remove make-up and oils.

    Transfer to container for storage. Consider storing these wipes in the refrigerator as well. The cool sensation may also help to clean and refresh face.

Method 3
Cleaning Wipes

    Create homemade cleaning fluid by mixing 1 cup of water with ¼ cup of rubbing alcohol, 2 tbsp. Dawn dish soap and 2 tbsp. ammonia.

    Combine paper towels with 4 cups of warm water and a few drops of concentrated, homemade cleaning fluid.

    Pour the remaining cleaning fluid over paper towels and allow to soak.

    Transfer to a gallon sized freezer plastic bag for storage. This will allow you to store these flat and will be easy to carry around the house during cleaning.

Tips

  • Instead of using paper towels, use old rags when creating cleaning wipes.
