How to Eliminate Puffy Eyes

Do you hate having puffiness under your eyes? Here are some tips to try to eliminate the puffiness and help you to appear awake and alert.

    Get plenty of sleep.

    Drink plenty of water. Proper hydration keeps your skin looking healthy and puffiness on the down side.

    Watch your salt intake. Dirty martinis, ham and other items high in sodium will make your fingers and face puffy.

    After you've had your chamomile tea don't throw the tea bags away. Put them in a container and store them in your refrigerator. Use them as cool compresses. Apply to the eyes and sit with your head back for 10-15 minutes. If your eyes still appear puffy you can put them back in the refrigerator.

    Cucumber slices that have been chilled in the refrigerator are cool and soothing. Put slices on your eyes for 10-15 minutes.

    Preparation H cream can be used to battle puffiness around the eyes. It is also good to reduce swelling from too much sun. Apply sparingly and allow to be absorbed into the skin before applying makeup.

    Keep your favorite eye cream in the refrigerator. Just apply as you normally would. If you don't want to trouble yourself with running back and forth to your kitchen you can stockpile the free samples at makeup counters and keep those chilling until you need them. As an added bonus, they're smaller so they won't get in the way and they're free so should someone accidentally throw it away it won't cost you.

    Most beauty supply, discount and department stores sell gel eye packs. Many of these attach with velcro behind the head. You can get several pairs and keep them on ice until you need them. You can also warm them as great relief for a sinus headache.


  • Do an oatmeal facial and put tea bags on your eyes to get rid of the puffiness.
  • When all else fails put some ice in a damp washcloth and hold to your eyes.


  • The above suggestions are for the external eye lids and surrounding eye area. These suggestions should not be used on the open eye.
  • Read the ingredients in the tea bags before using them and make sure you aren't allergic to any ingredients.
