How to Get Into Writing

Do you want to get into writing? Then you're on the right path. Just follow the steps below.

    Read. This will help you to understand how different writers tell a story. If you are intent on becoming a writer, reading is one of the best things you can do. You need to read a book that will get you thinking. It might be a non-fiction or a mystery, it doesn't matter.

    Write a lot. You should try to write something creative everyday. It can be as simple as a poem about a cat or a story about your favorite toy. As you become more comfortable with writing you should try to write something creative for an hour everyday.

    Be excited. If you aren't happy about writing, then how are you ever going to do it well? Read a biography on your favorite author. Their ideas on writing can inspire you.

    Make a blog. Go on to or and sign up. You can display pictures and postings on what is going on in your life. This might help you to know what is most important to you and might give you something to write about.

    Get going. Write about anything you can think of. Make sure you care enough about the subject to really get into detail about it. Soon your love of writing will show.

    Find your genre. Every writer has a specialty. You should try out different genres until you find one that expressed you. For you it could be fiction or non fiction.

    Get your writing supplies Before starting you need to decide what you're going to be writing on. It can be a notebook or your computer. It doesn't matter as long as you like it.


  • Never consider an idea stupid or silly. That's how great novels are made
  • Know that you will not be perfect at first. Just don't give up if writing is your dream.
  • Love your writing
  • Use your favorite writer's ideas. But do not plagiarize (see Warnings). When you already have characters and a plot set out for you, it's easier to write about it.


  • If you are thinking of publishing your work, do not plagiarize. Plagiarism is when you steal another writer's idea and don't give them credit.
