How to Handle Traffic Time

City life is so much fun, provided you are not struck inside the bus or other form of passenger transportation for an hour or more, held up in traffic jams. Today's increasing jams in large cities leave many a commuter no other option than to spend hours aboard a bus or commuter vehicle. Fortunately, there is a lot that you can do to make this traffic time profitable, instead of sitting feeling grumpy till the bus finally moves.

  1. 1
Carry a novel by your favorite author. Read all the way on your journey; you will enjoy the book and will not get worried by the traffic frenzy.
  2. 2
Do your exam revision. In case you are preparing for any exams, like GRE, carry a small list of words, numbers or concepts to read over. Use this to challenge yourself to learn or finish getting through before you reach your stop. Sometimes you might even wish the bus to remain still, just so that you can finish your task!
  3. 3
Get work done. Provided it's not confidential work, you could read papers, type up notes or go over things that you need to have ready for the next day at work.
  4. 4
Do your shopping. Shopping is always fun. Plan your shopping list leisurely during this jam time. If you have a smartphone, you could consider shopping online. Other things you could do with the smartphone include making bookings for appointments, sending emails and texts to people and following up with and digital to-dos.
  5. 5
Listen to music. Have a good selection of different playlists. Every night before going to bed, add one or two new songs to your playlist. Because nothing is as boring as hearing the same songs over and over again.
  6. 6
Catch up with your old friends. You might have wanted to call (or there is always whatsapp) someone but never got time. You will kill the traffic time easily and you might even have a chance to revive an old relationship.
  7. 7
Plan any upcoming event. For example, a birthday party or a vacation trip.

  • Things that might come handy during everyday traffic include having comfortable ear phones and a small scrapbook. Or, use apps if you have a smartphone. Install all of the apps that would be useful for you.
