Be quiet. Remove your shoes if they're loud. Don't breathe heavily or scream, and try not to use the stairs as they can be loud.

Find a logical place to hide. Under a table is too obvious. If you decide to hide in a closet, find one in a room, get in, and close it (without making a sound, or as little noise as possible). Lock it (if possible) quietly. If you have creaky doors, don't hide in a closet. Instead, hide under a bed, in a cupboard if you're small, in a shower, or even in a dog cage and cover it with a blanket.

Make sure that you have a phone (preferable a cell phone) near you to call the police with. While chatting with an emergency dispatcher, keep your voice quiet so the intruder doesn't hear you.

Tips

  • Be as silent as possible.
  • Close your windows.
  • If you have a firearm, and are physically threatened, DO NOT be afraid to use it. Your life, or them being immobilized in a finger?
  • If you can, get your car keys, and push the panic button, which will sound your car alarm, and the intruder will think that someone knows that they're here.
  • Do not panic- it fogs your mental processes, which is what you do not want.
  • Before anything, make sure it really is an intruder before shooting at them!
  • If you're small, you can hide in more places.
  • Get an adult you trust.
  • Don't try to be a hero as you could end up as a tragic one. Only attack the intruder if your life or someone elses depends on it, but it's better to have your property stolen than to lose your life in a futile attempt to save it. Objects can be replaced, life cannot.

Warnings

  • Sometimes it is better to try to get out of the house and know self defense. Only hide if you absolutely must.
  • Do not use a firearm if not threatened.

Things You'll Need

  • A usable phone
  • A good hiding spot
