How to Join the Civil Air Patrol

Are you a teen that wants to become part of the military but are too young? Do you want to serve your country? Do you want to wear a cool uniform and impress your friends? Then join the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) the USAF Aux. They conduct search and rescue, disaster relief, and homeland security missions as well as survival skills, weapon training, communication, first aid, pilot training, astronomy, aerospace education, leadership, and a lot more.

    Find a squadron near you. This can be done through http://hosted.where2getit.com/civilairpatrol/

    Go to a few meetings and see what they do because all squadrons are different.

    Go through the training and learn all the basic stuff.

    Sign the paperwork.

    Attend an encampment (CAP basic training). You can only do this for a requirement for a rank, (2nd LT.)

    Learn military customs and courtesy.

    Move up in rank. This is one of the more important things you can do. The more stripes you have usually you will get more respect.

    Apply for special activities around your Wing (state) or Nationally.

Tips

  • Don't be afraid to ask for help.
  • Use starch when ironing your uniform or dry clean it if you don't like ironing.
  • Have fun.
  • Attend an encampment. It is a valuable training exercise.
  • Try to stay in good shape.
  • Make friends at CAP. They will help you a lot, plus they are not only your friends, they are your comrades.
  • Learn the short cuts and loopholes for uniform care.
  • Your uniform is the uniform of the USAF and is to be worn with respect. You will be ironing and polishing your shoes.

Warnings

  • You need to be prepared for a military lifestyle as this requires dedication.
  • If you have your uniform dry cleaned, make sure that they do not put "military creases" in it.
  • Also, it requires a lot of responsibilities.
