Wash your hair. Before you go, you'll need to wash your hair. It's a good idea to put it up in a secure ponytail or bun. You'll most likely be dancing and jumping around, so this will keep your hair out of the way, and keep your neck cool. If you have short hair, don't worry, just put in a few barrettes and bobby pins.

Choose a top. Before you choose your outfit, think about the conditions. Will you be dancing a lot? Is it cold or warm outside? How about inside the gym where this will be taking place? If you're going to be dancing and sweating, wear a t-shirt, or a tank top if your school allows it. If it's cold outside, bring along a sweatshirt. Make sure you put on deodorant before you go.

Choose a bottom. As with shirts, you'll need to check the temperature. Shorts or sweatpants will work good. Don't wear jeans. They'll be warm and constricting when trying to dance, and won't breathe like a good pair of cotton sweats.

Pick shoes. Of course you won't be needing these at a sock hop. Wear some inexpensive sneakers during transport to and from the event.

Choose socks. The main basis of a sock hop. Since these will be what everyone will see, wear some cute ones! Go crazy and get some rainbow toe socks, or be more conservative with a pair of pink fuzzy socks. Anything will work, just keep it clean and cute.

Tips

  • Bring an extra ponytail holder or two on your wrist. Just make sure they're loose and won't cut off your circulation!
  • A cute headband is also a good way to hold back short hair.

Warnings

  • Stretch before you do any crazy dancing!
