Part 1
Getting ready

  1. Image titled Bridge_Partner_bidding_box
Take an extra deck with clubs, diamonds, hearts and spades. Make a pile with the numbers from 8 to 10, including the J, Q and K. You will not use this ones so take only the numbers from 1 to 7 and the three Jokers.
  2. 2
Separate and arrange —in the order of the section 1 of the Step 1— the numbers from 1 (A) to 7 in the way explained next:
    • Make four piles and arrange them from 1 to 7, one for each suit.
    • From left to right arrange them as in section 1 of the Step 1.
  3. 3
Take the A of clubs with your left hand. Put under it the other A in order. Act the same way with all the numbers from 2 to 7.
  4. 4
Put the pile in the middle of the table. Place the three Jokers under it but in 90º angle so you can take whichever card you want without touching the other group of cards.

Part 2
Getting the contract in a specified suit (not No trump)

  1. 1
Turn the cards —the first to open the auction— until you arrive to the desired contract. If, for example, you want to open the auction with a 2C —2 of clubs— turn all the cards face down starting with the 1C until you arrive to the 2C and leave this one face up. The next player will do the same or will pass.
  2. 2
Repeat the procedure until arrived to the desired contract.
  3. 3
Move the pile with the contract away but in a place where all the players can see the contract.

Part 3
Getting the contract with No trump

  1. 1
Take the Joker. Put it over the pile of the contract in suits but in horizontal way over the previous number of the contract in No trump. For example, if you want to open the auction in a contract of 1NT turn the cards face down as in section 1 of Step 2 until you arrive to the 2C and then put the Joker over it in horizontal way. This will be the 1NT contract.
  2. 2
If another player decides to change the contract, retire the Joker and put it in the place you took it.
  3. 3
Move away the Joker from the pile. Put it over whenever the contract is No trump or not.

Part 4
How to do the doubles

  1. 1
Use the others two Jokers to double.
  2. 2
Take one of the Joker under the central pile to announce a double —section 4 Step 1— and put it on your right each time you want to announce a double.
  3. 3
Take the other Joker if a player has announced a double and you want to redouble.
  4. 4
If you cancel the double or redouble, put back the Jokers in his place.

  • Make sure to understand all the steps, it is not difficult.
  • You can adapt this method to a latin deck using the numbers from 1 to 7 and three extra cards face down to use them as Jokers.
  • You can make a bidding box in plastic or wood and buy an extra deck to use it exclusively as a bidding box.
