How to Make a Free Sweat Box

Have you ever gone to a gym and after the workout you went into their sweat lodge or sauna, and said you always wanted one? Well, here's how you can make one. All you need is a bathroom, bucket, bathtub and a door insulator.

    Fill up your bathtub, or shower with 'hot water. It has to be above the 110 degree mark to be effective.

    Fill up a bucket with cold water. Make sure you have a ladle with the bucket so you can pour cold water on the hot water to create steam. Your hot water may need to be turned up from the thermostat on your water heater.

    Insulate to trap the steam. Take the door insulator and insulate the sides and bottom of your bathroom door. If you have a bathroom that also has a closet, or a separate mini-room for a toilet, you may have to insulate that door as well.

    Sit and relax. Now sit down outside of your bathtub or inside your shower and start creating steam.


  • The smaller the room, the more effective your steam bath will be.
  • The shower method works better then the tub but it only supports one person depending on your shower size.
  • When using the shower for this, sit down inside the shower then cover the shower in curtains so as little air as possible can come out of your shower.


  • You can get burned by the hot water so watch out.
  • Steam can cause you to appear as though sweating. If you are meeting someone outside the bathroom door, be prepared for questions.
  • Stepping out of your sauna experience may leave you colder than normal when you leave the room
  • Changing from hot to cold can cause reactions by the body, so be prepared for different sensations.
