How to Make a Planet Style Seashell Necklace

Two Parts:Forming the Planet-Shaped StructuresJoining the Necklace Together

Using seashell-based doughnut-shaped beads, you can create some delightful patterns that somewhat resemble a planet with its ring of gas around it. When strung together in a necklace row, the resulting effect is quite stunning and looks a lot more complicated than it is to make. This craft project is suitable for someone with basic jewelery-making experience.

Part 1
Forming the Planet-Shaped Structures

    1
Make the planet shape. Once you've made one like this, you'll have the hang of it for the rest of the necklace. Assemble as follows:
    • Place the doughnut shell bead on the work surface.
    • Place the round-faceted glass bead in the center hole of the shell bead. The bead must fit inside the hole with ease.
    • Thread an eye-pin through the holes in the doughnut shell bead and the round bead, pinning them all together as one structure. Be sure to use a long eye-pin.
    • Leave a section of about 6mm in length for forming the loops between each planet-shaped structure with round-nosed pliers, to form the necklace.

Repeat for the remaining beads that you're going to use for making up the necklace. Decide how long you wish the necklace to be and make enough of these planet-shaped structures to reach that length.

If wished, use differently shaped beads for the planet-shaped structures that will sit in the center of the necklace. For example, substitute the round-faceted beads with heart-shaped beads or other shaped beads. While not essential, this can make the necklace more interesting.

Part 2
Joining the Necklace Together

    1
Using the round-nosed pliers, hook the ends of the eye-pins together to join the planet-shaped structures.

Finish off the ends of the necklace with a clasp. Use a brass lobster claw clasp for a firm and secure clasp.
    • To fit the clasp, simply open the loop at the beginning and end and fit on each end, securing by pressing in with the pliers.
