How to Make a Rain Race Game

Have you ever seen the episode of Charlie and Lola "It's raining, it's boring" in which they found a rain race game in a box? When it is raining, little kids may find it boring so a rain race game is a great way to keep them entertained. It's basically a box of games to be played on a rainy day, and children race to play them all before the rain lets up.

Decorate it and have a title on the lid "Is it raining and are you bored, then open this box, so you won't be bored anymore!" You don't have to add this title but if you forget you made this or someone looks for something to do on a rainy day then they will understand what this is.

Tips

  • Stop children playing with it when it is not a rainy day. To stop children playing with it when it is not a rainy day, only put it out for them if it is a rainy week or something.
  • Do not tell your children you made the rain race box, so they only find it when they are bored.
  • You do not need to put everything in the box, you can get the rest around the house such as colouring pencils. (But not something hard to get -, remember this is going to be used on a rainy day and you can't just pop to the shops to get it).
  • Do not put boring games inside something entertaining, and DO NOT put store bought games or it will really ruin the game.
  • Remember this is a game race, do not put arts and crafts, maybe some colouring but not something too time consuming.
  • Encourage them to add more games once they have played those games
  • Try to make up games they haven't played.

Warnings

  • Make sure the games are safe.
  • Put the box out somewhere children can reach.
