How to Make a Snow Globe with Kids

Snow globes seem to hold wonder and magic, especially when you can make them at home. Although commercial snow globes may contain certain preservatives that may not be appropriate for children, this tutorial provides a kid-friendly option for the entire family.

Steps

Glue plastic figure to the inside of the jar lid. Your figure will want to stand tall (and in place) so position the figure in the middle, using small dabs of the strong glue to hold it in place.
    • Allow ample dry time before moving on to the next step as it is critical your figure is secure (or else it could float off into the jar when you are finished).

Fill jar 3/4 of the way with glycerin. Instead of using water, which could evaporate or damage the figure over time, use glycerin which acts as a preservative.

Add glitter to glycerin-filled jar. Don't over glitter as you don't want the glitter to overwhelm and mask your figure.
    • Use approximately 1 to 2 tbsp. of glitter per jar.

Rim the top of the jar with glue. This will reinforce the snow globe so it stays in place.

Turn lid over so your figure is standing upside down and screw lid into place.
    • Allow glue to dry before shaking.

Shake it up and enjoy the effect!

Tips

  • Use clear or silver glitter so that you still see the figure but retain that magical shine.
  • Use a plastic jar and lid if your children are performing the craft themselves (although plastic will not wear the same as glass).
