wikiHow to Make a Tulle Rose

Two Methods:Preparing the tulleCreating the rose

Tulle roses are simple to make, albeit a little fiddly. You'll soon get the knack of making these pretty little objects, which can be used to decorate everything from fairy costumes to a craft project.

Method 1
Preparing the tulle

  1. Image titled Make a Tulle Rose Step 1
Cut the tulle into strips. You'll need to adjust the strip length according to how large or small you want the tulle rose to be, and the smaller it is, the fiddlier the rose-making will be. A standard size for the strips would be about 90cm/1 yard (0.9 m) and 7.5-10cm (3-4 inches) wide.
    • Cut lots of strips if you're making lots of roses.

Method 2
Creating the rose

Wrap the tulle. Choose something to wrap the tulle around, for example your finger or a pencil. Wrap around and around until you're happy with the amount and consider that it appears "rose-like".
    • Tight wrapping means a smaller rose, looser wrapping means a larger rose (as well as the amount of tulle used).

Remove the wrapped tulle carefully from the object used to wrap around. Wind the tulle length a few times around the ball to complete and glue the end piece in place.
    • An application of hot glue in the center of the rose can help to keep the flower shape intact.

Glue, pin or sew the tulle rose onto the item. Depending on what you're adding the tulle rose to, use the right affixing method to keep it snugly in place.

  • The more you make, the easier it gets, so if you need to make lots, sit by the TV with your bundle of tulle lengths and start winding!
  • Florist wire can be used at the base of the rose to both keep its shape and to provide something for it to attach with, especially for floral projects such as a wreath.
  • Tulle roses are wonderful for adding to such items as headbands, wreaths, clothing and fabric.
