How to Make Buttery 5 Minute Microwave Rusks

Are you dying for a sweet, buttery rusk to dunk into your morning coffee? If you have some butter, a loaf of bread, sugar and a microwave oven, you can have that sweet, buttery rusk 5-10 minutes from now.

Steps

    Butter 3 or 4 slices of white or brown bread generously.

    Sprinkle some white or brown sugar on the buttered bread.

    Press the sprinkled sugar firmly into the butter.

    Microwave the buttered slices of bread for 4-5 minutes, buttered side up. Keep a watchful eye on them. Microwave ovens differ a lot, but all you have to know is that you have to remove the bread from the oven before the sugar gets scorched. Dark brown marks on the upper side of the bread and a hissing sound indicate scorching.

    Take the bread out of the microwave when the butter has melted into the bread and the sugar begins to melt. Allow a minute for cooling down.

    Cut every slice into 3 to 4 rusks.

Tips

  • Coarse brown sugar produces crunchier rusks than white sugar.

Warnings

  • Be careful when removing the sugary, buttered bread slices from the oven. They are piping hot, and so is the plate.
