How to Make Caramel Coated Cheetos

You've probably had various "sweet and salty" snacks before, with the usual chocolate-covered-pretzels. Boring! Live on the wild side with this delicious, and addictive caramel covered Cheetos recipe that blows all of the other wannabees out of the water.

Ingredients

  • 2 bags of 8 ounce Lay's All-Natural White Cheddar Cheetos
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Method 1
Making the Caramel

    Melt the butter in your microwave for 20 seconds.

    Combine butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and salt in your 3 quart saucepan.

    Put the stirred caramel mixture on the stove, stirring constantly until bubbling. Leave on the stove for 2 minutes.

    After the caramel is done, add the baking soda, cream of Tartar, and the vanilla. Mix extremely well.

Method 2
Prepping the Cheetos

    Preheat the oven to 250 degrees.

    Empty both bags of Cheetos into the pan and put the Cheetos inside the oven after it is preheated.

Method 3
Coating the Cheetos

    Take the Cheetos out of the oven.

    Pour the caramel mixture on the Cheetos, covering them evenly. Don't stir the Cheetos while pouring, as this may mess up your aim and make the coating uneven.

    After coating evenly, mix the Cheetos up. Using the silicone spatula, mix the Cheetos slowly, taking care not to spill the caramel; it is still hot.

Baking the Caramel-Covered Cheetos

    Using the same oven you prepped the Cheetos in, pop the Cheetos in the oven for one hour.
    • Every 15 minutes, open the oven, stir, and close the oven.

Cooling

    After the 1 hour is up, cool the Cheetos for 15 minutes before serving.

Tips

  • You can substitute white cheddar Cheetos with white cheddar cheese balls as well.
  • When adding the vanilla to the caramel mixture, be careful, as adding the vanilla too quick can cause the vanilla to travel to the bottom of the bowl and boil, triggering a mini-explosion!

Warnings

  • Be very careful around the hot caramel, it can leave burns.
