How to Make Chocolate Burfi

With Diwali around the corner, we should be looking at interesting sweet recipes to make at home. Here is an Indian sweet that is vegetarian and comes in bite size portions

Ingredients

  • 1 cup refined plain flour / maida
  • 1 cup milk powder
  • 1 cup cocoa / boost
  • 2 cups ghee
  • 2 cups sugar

Steps

    Mix milk powder, flour maida and cocoa.

    In a heavy bottom vessel melt the sugar in 1 cup water. Let it simmer on a low flame till the sugar syrup when dropped forms a string like appearance. You can test this by taking a little syrup in a ladle, raise your hand and drop the syrup into the container in a steady stream-it will resemble a string/thread.

    On the other burner heat the ghee on a low flame.

    Add the dry ingredients into the sugar syrup. Stir well until combined.

    Keep adding spoonfuls of hot ghee into the sugar syrup mix till all the hot ghee is used. Keep stirring on a low flame until the liquid will solidify and leave the sides of the container.

    Transfer the contents into a greased plate.

    Allow to cool and cut into squares with a knife.

Tips

  • Cook on a low flame to prevent the burfi from burning.
  • Use a heavy kadai, or a wide mouthed vessel for stirring the ingredients
