How to Make Dulce De Toronjas

Dulce de Toronjas, or sweet grapefruit, is tedious to make, but makes a very thick, tasty cream when it's finished.

Ingredients

  • 4 big, ripe grapefruits
  • 3 cups of sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 2 big cinnamon sticks

Steps

    Peel the grapefruits, removing the yellow part only.

    Cut each one into six vertical slices.

    Remove the pulp. It can be used for juice.

    Put the pieces of shell in a deep pot and cover with water.

    Boil for 5 minutes and discard the water.

    Repeat step 5 7 more times.

    Add cold water again, but pat the slices dry one by one. Put them aside.

    Make the syrup with the remaining ingredients, letting it boil for about 10 minutes.

    Strain syrup, and add shell slices to it.

    Boil for about 20 more minutes at a low temperature.
