How to Make Matzo Brie or Fried Matzo

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp parsley flakes
  • 9 matzos
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Maple syrup

    Crack eggs in a bowl and beat eggs with whisk.

    Pour water in the bowl and mix.

    Add onion powder, garlic powder, salt and parsley flakes. Mix well.

    Break the matzos into the bowl. Try breaking them into 9 pieces - in thirds one way, and then in thirds the other.

    With a fork, mix the matzos by starting at the bottom and flipping the matzos upside down.

    Do this four times, once every 2 minutes, or until the matzos are well coated with egg mixture.

    Put the pan on the stove over high heat and melt the butter.

    Add the matzo mixture to the pan and cook, stirring frequently, until well cooked.

    Remove pan from heat, add cheese, stir the mixture and serve on a plate immediately (the heat from the fried matzos will melt the cheese).

    Drizzle maple syrup to taste.

Tips

  • Adding the cheese is the trickiest part. Here is how to do it correctly: Remove the pan from heat. Add cheese to cover most of the cooked matzos. Mix a little bit, then pour onto the plate and mix a little more.

Warnings

  • When the matzos are soaking in the egg mixture, it could take a little while; be patient.
  • When making for three or more people it will be a little trickier. When making it for one or two people, it is easier to make and clean up.
