How to Make Mie Celor Special

When talking about South Sumatera, Indonesia, it is not complete if we do not conclude Pempek. It is the most famous local dish in Palembang city. There are many variants of Pempek but together with Pempek there is also Mie Celor (Celor Noodle) that now has become Palembang'™s signature dish also. Mie celor is a large yellow wheat noodle served with bean sprouts and hard-boiled egg in coconut milk soup. The soup made with fresh shrimp and sometimes it is made with ebi (dried shrimp) instead of using fresh shrimp. To add spiciness, it is also served with a separate sambal, a chili sauce that made from chili with salt blend together.


  • Wheat noodles
  • 10 gram shrimp
  • 15 gram bean sprout, boiled
  • Hard-boiled egg
  • 100 ml water
  • 35 ml coconut milk
  • 1 garlic, chopped
  • Lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon corn flour, dissolve with some water
  • Vegetable oil
  • Fried onions
  • Leek
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Sugar

    First, sauté chopped garlic with vegetable oil until it become fragrant, then put the shrimp.

    After that add 100 ml water, when it starts boiling, add lime juice, salt, pepper and sugar to your taste.

    Add the coconut milk and let it boils again, then turn down the heat into low and keep stirring while pouring corn flour until the soup thicken and add pieces of leek and also fried onions.

    Spoon noodle and bean sprouts into bowl, flush with hot sauce and add pieces of boiled egg. Serve it with sambal.
