How to Make Nutella and Banana Wontons

Deep fried wontons can have any surprises tucked inside the middle. Whether you're enjoying a crab rangoon or spiced chicken, be sure to include these crispy banana treats along with your meal. The crunchiness of the wonton matches well with the soft fruit and gooey chocolate taste. Here is how to make Nutella and banana wontons.



Makes 48 wontons

Ingredients

  • 1 (12 ounce, 340g) package wonton wrappers, thawed
  • 2 cups (16 oz) canola or peanut oil
  • 1 jar (13 ounce, 370g) Nutella Hazelnut Spread
  • 2 bananas, thinly sliced
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 4 tablespoons cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar

    Make a "chocolate piping bag". Spoon the Nutella spread into a sandwich size plastic sealable bag, seal it, and snip off a small bottom corner.

    Place a banana slice and a generous squirt of Nutella in the middle of a wonton wrapper.

    Use fork prongs or a pastry brush to gently wipe egg wash on the edges of the wrapper.

    Fold the wrapper over into a triangle. You might need to nudge the banana and chocolate away from you to get a nicer crease. Be sure to push out any air before sealing.

    Fry the wontons. Heat the vegetable oil in a medium deep skillet and carefully add the wontons in. Just work on cooking as many as can comfortably fit without touching each other. Flip each one over when golden brown and fry on the other side.

    Remove the fried wontons from the skillet and place them on paper towels to dry.

Tips

  • If you don't push air out of the wrapper while folding, the wonton will create an expansion bubble in the middle while frying.
  • When deep frying, always use a vegetable oil that has a high smoking point and can handle high heat such as sunflower, canola, or peanut oils.
  • Be sure not to overload the wonton wrappers with Nutella and avoid using banana slices that are too thick. Sealing the wrapper edges is necessary so that the ingredients don't ooze out or fall out while frying.
