How to Make Quick and Easy Vanilla Frosting

Want to make vanilla frosting quickly and with ease? This recipe will come to your rescue. It's simple, it's fast and it tastes fantastic when on the baked item.


  • 3 cups powdered sugar (also known as confectioner's sugar or icing sugar)
  • 1/3 stick of butter, softened (can be substituted with vegetable margarine)
  • 1-2 teaspoons of milk (can be substituted with plant milk)
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    Get a medium bowl.

    Add the butter and sugar to the bowl. Mix together.
    • If using an electric mixer, use low speed.

    Add the vanilla extract and milk after an initial quick mix of the butter and sugar. Mix together to combine completely.

    Transfer to the baked item. Use a frosting spatula to spread the vanilla frosting across the cake, cupcake or other baked product.

  • If the frosting is too thick, put drops of milk in it at a time.
  • If it's too thin, do the same except with sugar.
