How to Make Rum Butter

Rum butter is suitable for a cake filling, as a pancake topper, or for pouring on the top of desserts.


  • 1 lb butter
  • 1 lb caster/superfine sugar
  • 3 or 4 tbsp rum or rum extract/essence/flavoring
  • Little freshly grated nutmeg

    Beat sugar and butter to cream.

    Add the rum and nutmeg and work through.

    Once mixed into a smooth paste, spread on cake. If used as pancake or dessert topping, consider topping the rum butter with whipped cream or ice cream for a delicious mix. You may also store the rum butter for later use.
