How to Prepare for a Dance Audition for a Studio Team

Dancing is fun but if you have the talent the better option would be to compete! Follow these steps to get into a studio team.

    Take a year of ballet before auditioning. Ballet is the key to all dancing even if most auditions for studio teams are based on technique,the amount of time it takes to pick up choreography,and passion about what you're doing.

    Exercise to keep yourself healthy. When auditioning,push ups,crunches and sit ups are very important! Start warming up your muscles and doing a lot of ab work before auditioning.

    Be flexible. There is nothing more that instructors love then you being flexible!Stretch everyday until you can at least be able to do a split and a straddle.

    Practice choreographing. At some studios,you may be required to choreograph a dance solo.Challenge yourself and put skills in the routine that express your love for dance and the advanced techniques that you're able to do.

    Practice acrobatics. Though not necessary it is always a plus if you can perform acrobatics when asked to do so.

    Wear proper attire. The most appropriate thing to wear would be a black leotard,caramel or pink tights,and the correct dance shoes. Have your hair in a bun. A costume may also be worn if it is suitable for you routine.

    Arrive early at the audition. You should try to arrive as early as possible because you don't want to go on stage with stiff bones. You should warm up and stretch before you audition.

    Stay confident and make everything look easy. Don't let anyone see the fear or nervousness in your eyes.

Tips

  • If your studio requires a resume make sure you do it at least a week before your auditions, this will make it much easier to practice and to make sure everything is perfect when you audition.
