How to Prepare Waasung Gudog

"Waasung Gudog" is a delicacy very popular in Tripura and not known by most of the people outside this region. It's easy to prepare and delicious too.

  1. 1
Prepare a bamboo stalk chopped open at one end. Ideally it's prepared on 'waanal or waandal' (a class of bamboo with thick skinned and spacious at the same time).
  2. 2
Gudog ingredients can be chosen at one's discretion. Usually it's bamboo shoot, but we'll take an example of potato.....
  3. 3
Take a tbsp of turmeric powder, few onion rings ,a fresh fry (baby fish), chopped potatoes and most importantly green chillies and obviously salt.
  4. 4
Take a plantain leaf and roll it into a ball.
  5. 5
Transfer all the ingredients into the stalk and cover it with the ball of plantain leaf in such a way that it's loose enough to release pressure from the stalk.
  6. 6
Prepare a light fire and place the stalk over it.
  7. 7
Cook it until it boils for about 10 to 15 minutes. Monitor the whole proceeding very carefully.
  8. 8
Transfer the bulk from the stalk to a bowl, separate the soup and grind it into a paste.
  9. 9
Pour back the soup into the bowl and here is your WAASUNG GUDOG ready for electrifying your taste buds. It's simple and exotic. Try it at home.

  • Keep the stalk tilted at about 45 degree angle above fire to ensure only the bottom half of the stalk burns.
  • You are welcome to add your own flavour like coriander.

  • Ensure that the lid or the plantain leaf releases enough gas to maintain pressure or else the whole thing would burst open.
