How to Pull Together a Last Minute Outfit

Two Parts:Determining what's suitable for wearingGetting ready

We've all had those days where nothing seems to be going right. The final straw might be having to find the perfect outfit in 30 minutes or less. Fortunately, there is a way to manage this with ease.

Part 1
Determining what's suitable for wearing

    1
Determine what kind of event it is. Do you need business casual clothes? Is it a formal party? More of a jeans thing? If you're not sure, ask a friend or check the invite.

    2
Separate all your clothes according to what you've decided. For example, if it's a date, focus on your casual clothes. If it's a dance, focus on your dressy clothes etc. Match the clothes to the occasion. In some cases, it may even be appropriate to mix and match evening wear and casual gear, provided the finished outfit looks good.
    • If you aren't sure how casual/dressy a party is, wear something in between, such as a nice dressy top and wear with cute jeans, high heels, and a funky purse or jewelry to even it out.

Remove the items from your closet that fit that style. If it's a basic skirt-and-top party, pull out all your party skirts and tops.

Determine what pairings work well together. Remember, you don't have much time, so if you already know one top looks really good with one skirt, put them together.
    • Mix and match with different patterns. Try a blazer over a plain white shirt with jeans for a casual look. For a dressy look, grab a nice dress and add some matching accessories or an old purse that matches.

Consider wearing an outfit again. If you looked really good in something, then don't hesitate to rewear it. However, don't rewear something everyone noticed or that you wore less than two weeks ago.

Part 2
Getting ready

Take a shower. This may seem obvious, but you want to appear clean and fresh, no matter what the event is. Brush your hair, and apply basic make-up (foundation, concealer) if you wear it. Just look your natural best!

Decide what you're going to do with your face and hair. Since this has to be a brief makeover, just put on basic makeup like eye shadow and blush, don't spend a long time trying to get your smoky eyeliner just right.
    • Quickly brush your hair. Stick it up if it's messy and needs a wash. Pop on makeup to cover up the blemishes; there is no need to go overboard.

Change into the chosen outfit. Check it out in the mirror to ensure that you look presentable. Although people will notice your outfit, if you look confident and presentable for the setting, they're less likely to figure out you just pulled it out of your closet.

Tips

  • Be careful when determining what kind of party it is. You don't want to be caught in jeans at a business formal event.
  • Don't overdo your makeup.

Warnings

  • Less is always more. Just because something is revealing a lot of skin, it doesn't mean it's sexy.
