How to Speed Up Unity in Ubuntu

Unity is the default desktop Interface of Ubuntu OS. It has an elegant look and is very easy to use. However, sometimes the desktop hangs and users are forced to shut down their PC's or laptop. This article will help to overcome this problem.

Steps

    Open your terminal in Ubuntu. This can be done by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T.

    Type gedit .xprofile in the Terminal window.

    Press the Enter key. This will open the .xprofile document in the Default Text Editor.

    Type export UNITY_LOW_GFX_MODE=1 in the text editor. Save the file and close the text editor.

    Restart Ubuntu. Your Unity will be faster.

Tips

  • To perform this from the terminal without opening a text editor, type echo "export UNITY_LOW_GFX_MODE=1" >> ~/.xprofile. This will create the text file and add to it the line that you want to add.
